Knowledge Translation

In the age of Research Impact, where there is a demand for research to have demonstrable and sustainable social, economic and health impacts, the movement and use of new and existing knowledge into policy and practice has become increasingly important. (Australian Research Council 2015, Kitson, Brook et al. 2018)

Good research alone, is not sufficient to drive change, bridge knowledge gaps, improve health outcomes and deliver optimal health care. In Australia, and abroad, there are significant and consistent challenges with the utilisation and slow uptake of research knowledge. (Graham, Logan et al. 2006, Kitson, Brook et al. 2018)

Knowledge Translation is the dynamic and iterative process through which evidence is generated, synthesised, disseminated and applied ethically into healthcare policy and practice. (Straus, Tetroe et al. 2009) This is one platform to bridge some of this disconnect and increase the likelihood that our research efforts are mobilized. (Grimshaw, Eccles et al. 2012) Research fostering partnership and collaborative engagement reframes how we work with our stakeholders and end-users to understand and solve collective problems that are locally relevant and meaningful. (Kitson, Brook et al. 2018)
